90 Seconds of Truth: stories from the rest of us.
Help us tell the truth about sexual orientation “change”
Over the last few months, there has been a resurgence of ex-gay propaganda, most notably from people at Bethel Church in Redding, CA who are using their significant media presence to share false teaching about sexual orientation change.
Not only do these stories erase the complexity of human sexuality, they create false promises that many parents and families latch on to. These stories of people who “once identified as LGBTQ+” get mixed in with bad theology, creating a false binary and weaponizing their version of Jesus against queer people.
Their message is clear: you cannot be queer and a person of faith. You must change.
This is a lie.
We’re gonna tell the truth. Mattias Roberts, creator of the podcast Queerology and I are partnering to create “90 Seconds of Truth: Stories from the Rest of Us” and you can help.
If you have a story to share, whether you’re queer, a parent, and/or a friend, we want you to share it. If you have words of encouragement for people who are feeling lost, stories about what life is like now that you’ve come out of toxic theology, or things within you that need to be said: we need your voice.

It may be helpful to write out what you want to say before you record to make sure you get it all in 90 seconds.
Record in a quiet room. You can use headphones with a mic, your phone, or whatever you have.
Here’s what we don’t want: 90 seconds of you bashing Bethel or toxic theology. We already know how bad it is. Instead, tell us a story of how your life has gotten better since leaving bad theology behind. Or share some encouragement for people still struggling.
We will will compile these into a special joint episode (or episodes depending on the response!) of our podcasts and we’re sharing it THIS TUESDAY. You have until Saturday night at midnight (PT) to share.
